R.I.P Peter "Peter4" Ridley

I am using this forum to announce the passing yesterday (13th January) of Mr. Peter Ridley, know to many of his fellow Brits on Ambergris Caye as 'Peter 4'.

Peter succumbed to a long battle with cancer, he was in the care of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City at the time of his passing. His wishes was to be cremated and have his ashes scattered here on Ambergris Caye. Details of a memorial service and the scattering of his ashes will be announced later, though mid-week of next week is looking the most likely time. It is hoped that his sister will be able to return to San Pedro to attend.

At this time, we are not clear as to funds available to cover the costs of the cremation, so are asking for donations from anyone that wishes to contribute.

Donations can be made either to Grant Crimmins at Pelican Properties, Jim Janmohamed, or at any of the fund raisers we hope to hold over the next few days, centered largely around Crazy Canucks, Road Kill Bar and Coconuts. Grant Crimmins (grant@pelicanproperties.com)

Ultra-light planes, added adventure to La Isla Bonita

Chances are that you have seen them flying over Ambergris Caye, and if you were wondering what the “golf carts with wings” are, they are ultra-light planes. The ultra-light planes will not be used for commercial transportation and according to the investors; it will only be used for recreational flying.
The recreational flights will be another added adventure for local and visitors to San Pedro Town to enjoy a complete aerial view of La Isla Bonita. The ultra-light planes are just two of five that will be offering flyovers over San Pedro, Ambergris Caye and Lamanai in the Orange Walk District. Read more on the ultra-lights plane in the next issue of The San Pedro Sun Newspaper.

Bingo night at Lions

It’s Bingo Night hosted by the San Pedro Lions Club. Last Friday marked the first time that the fun event was held at the Lions Den. Gamers arrived early and ready to play. With coins in hand they paid for their games at $2 a card. Soon, the letters and numbers began to be called. Everyone eagerly awaited, sitting on the edge of their seats, curling with anticipation and holding in the desire to yell, “Bingo.” Someone won, everyone clapped and the games continued. By the end of the night, the last game played was at $5 a card. The pot stood at $175 for any single winner. A few nail-biting minutes later, five people emerged as winners and shared the big pot.Half of the money paid for the games is entered into the pot. The other half goes to the San Pedro Lions Club. Available while you play are delicious, finger licking barbecue and chicken ceviche. These are lovingly prepared by Lion Chef and Bartender - Reds. This fun way to raise funds will take place every Friday commencing at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and play.
