PRESS RELEASE - September 14, 2009 - In an effort to increase the participation of our high school population in our annual NATIONAL SEPTEMBER CELEBRATIONS, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Institute of Culture and History, is organizing and sponsoring an event titled, “HIGH SCHOOL STAR SEARCH”.

The event is opened to high school students countrywide who are talented in any of the following genres – DRAMA, DANCE, and MUSIC. Entries may be by individuals or group, and prizes will be awarded to the following:--BEST DRAMA, BEST MUSIC [VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL], BEST DANCE. A MINISTER’S TROPHY will be awarded to the school whose participant is selected as the MOST OUTSTANDING ENTRY, while all other participants and institutions will be awarded CERTIFICATES OF PARTICIPATION.

A panel of judges will be selected from a countrywide pool of suitably qualified persons.

HIGH SCHOOL STAR SEARCH 2009 is scheduled for Wednesday September 16, 2009 at 10:00am to allow for maximum participation and support from all participating institutions.

Will Robert Silva break the world record?

He is attempting to break and set a new world record for staying the longest underwater - to resurface on Wednesday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m., Robert Silva will have stayed under for 48 hours. This morning with a crew of two accompanied by the great staff of Ramon's Village dive shop, Silva arrived at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and proceeded to go through the Guiness World Record requirements.

Although underwater, Silva will be able to communicate with the crew via a two-way radio. In order to set the new record, Silva will be required to spend a full 48 hours underwater, meaning he has to eat and sleep at Hol Chan's Marine Reserve for the following two days.

Planned Power Outage - San Pedro - Sunday, September 13, 2009

Belize Electricity Limited advises its customers on Ambergris Caye that the supply of electricity will be temporarily interrupted from 1:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009.

Areas to be affected: All of San Pedro Town.

BEL apologizes for the inconvenience caused but this outage is necessary for the Company to perform emergency works on the distribution system in the area.

Reef Radio Karaoke - Week 5

The Reef Radio Karaoke competition continued with round 5 on Thursday night at Jaguars Temple Night Club. Four men and two women battled for the two spots available to enter into the finals scheduled for next week, September 17^th. After two rounds the audience voted Rolando Albeño as the “crowd favorite” and Roberto Carlos Narvaez was the “judge choice”.

Both Albeño and Narvaez round up the top ten finalists for the regular rounds. There is only one more participant that can make it into the finals as the 11^th finalist. He or she will be saved by way of internet voting. You can cast your vote to save your favorite contestant from a list of 19 that are online on the Reef Radio’s website. Vote now on www.thereefradiobelize.com. The karaoke finals are schedule for 9 PM on Thursday September 17 at the Jaguars Temple Night Club.
