Vote for Belize's Miss Teenager Universe (Daniella Wooley)

It is all taking place at the Hotel Sheraton at El Salvador - the Miss Teenager Universe Pageant. And, this year, Miss Teenager Universe will see the participation of Daniella Wooley as she proudly represents Belize. For the first time, Belize will have representation in the pageant in the form of the gorgeous 19-year-old from Esperanza Village in the Cayo District.

For the past two years, Daniella has been anxiously awaiting and training non-stop for her participation on the pageant. 21 teenagers from around the world have rendezvoused to the Central American country where they are participating in a flurry of events which will lead up to the grand night.

On pageant night, there will be seven beautiful young women who are chosen by the judges. However, an eight contestant is being chosen by you, the public. By going online you can vote for Belize's Daniella. There is still time to vote - so go ahead cast your vote. Click here to vote.

British High Commissioner visit San Pedro Town

The British High Commissioner to Belize His Excellency Pat Ashworth and his wife Pauline Ashworth were in San Pedro Town over the weekend. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the British Expatriates and to get familiarized with the Island. The event took place on Saturday the 10th of October at the Playa Lounge.

In an interview with The San Pedro Sun, H.E. Ashworth stated that he took the opportunity to listen to the concerns and address some issues brought up during his visit. According to H.E. Ashworth, Ambergris Caye has one of the biggest British communities in country. H.E. Ashworth and his wife were escorted by James Janmohamed the British Warden for San Pedro & Caye Caulker and his wife Jamila Janmohamed. Holy Cross receives much needed equipment

The Holy Cross Anglican Primary School in San Pedro Town received a much needed donation in the form of an industrial type stove. On Tuesday, the school management invited the different stakeholders that made the donation possible to a symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony.

The donation was made possible through the financial contribution of Tony and Ginger Rodger from Amarillo, Texas, USA. The couple was in Belize during the summer program at Holy Cross and noticed the need and returned back home and secured the donation. The stove was handed to Pastor Tim Tom from Word at Work Ministries in Texas, after which it was shipped to Belize. The shipping expense from Texas to Belize was covered by Belize Natural Energy Trust. Once in Belize, Island Ferry covered the transportation expenses from Belize City to San Pedro Town. The total donation including transportation is estimated at Belize $16,000. The stove will be used to prepare meals for the school’s feeding program. According to the local manager of Holy Cross, Francis Wilson, the stove will benefit some 527 students.

Police investigate two weekend incidents

A San Pedro Town resident is recuperating at the Belize Health Care Partners Limited in Belize City. According to a family member the woman, identified as 40 year old Deni Eiley was attacked sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning inside her home in the San Pablo Area of San Pedro Town. While neighbors heard dogs barking sometime around nine on Friday night, it was not until around seven on Saturday morning that Eiley was found by her 17 year old son.
Family members report that a lone Hispanic male stormed into Eiley's house and attacked her. No one has been arrested in relation to this incident. Members of the public that might have any information that can assist the police in their investigation are asked to contact the police department at 226-2022.
On Sunday the San Pedro Town community joined friends and family member of Deni Eiley at BC Bar and Grill to raise money to be used to help assist Eiley pay her hospital bills.

Meanwhile, San Pedro Police is investigating another incident that occurred on Sunday morning. According to police they received a call for help from a woman in the San Pedrito Area of San Pedro Town.
The woman told police that she found a man inside the room of her 13 year old daughter. The woman went on to explain that the man had a knife to her daughter’s neck and it appeared that the man intended to rape her but upon discovery he ran out through one of the doors and made good his escape. Based on the description given, police arrested a 16 year old male minor from the same area for this incident. The male is expected to be charged today (Tuesday) with a number of criminal offences including burglary and aggravated assault

Poker Tournament & Spelling Contest Benefits SACNW

A great time was had by all last Friday night at the South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch (SACNW) fund-raising Poker Tournament and Spelling Contest held at Pedro’s Inn. While some tried their luck at the card table, others tested their spelling skills while entertaining the crowd. Fabulous prizes were offered the winners and the evening was a huge success.
