Guatemala first lady seeks divorce to succeed president

GUATEMALA CITY – A court official says Guatemala's first lady is ending her eight-year marriage so she can seek to succeed her husband as president.
Guatemala's constitution prohibits members of a president's extended family from running for the presidency.
Judiciary spokesman Edwin Escobar says divorce proceedings began Monday between Sandra Torres de Colom and President Alvaro Colom, who cannot run for re-election.

Belize Athletes bring home 8 medals


Press Release - The Belize Amateur Athletic Association - September 20th 2010 - The Belize Amateur Athletic Association is proud to welcome back the athletes that represented Belize at the 21st Central American Championships of Athletics in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Even though participation at the meet was at one point in jeopardy, due to financial constraints on the new Executive, and despite the long and difficult journey, by bus, the team endured and persevered. The end results are nothing short of impressive; seven (7) athletes, accompanied by the B.A.A.A President, all performed admirably and exceeded expectations, winning a total of eight (8) medals (3 Gold, 3 Silver & 2 Bronze) and proving that Belizean Athletes are always contenders if given a chance.
The Association once again congratulates Team Belize for their efforts, sacrifices and stellar representation of our country and urges the community to support the athletes that keep making our country proud.

And the winner is....Miss Guatemala!!!!

After a night of pageantry, music and entertainment, Miss Costa Maya 2010-2011 was chosen. The winner was Guatemala's beautiful and gracious Gabriela Asturias. She won over the judges and crowd with her poise, elegance and stage presence during the costume competition, swimwear and evening gown presentation. The final question and answer session clinched the deal for her, and Gabriela is now the proud representative for the Mundo Maya. She is also the winner of Best National Costume.
Second runner up was Panama's Yosibell Sanchez Espino, followed by first runner up, Nicaragua's Claudia Alejandra Trejos Gadea

Costa Maya Kicks Off with Noche San Pedrana

The long awaited Costa Maya Festivities kicked off in fine island fashion with the annual Noche San Pedrana held last night. Hosted by the San Pedro Lion's Club for the third consecutive year, the Lion's put out the welcome mat for La Reina de la Costa Maya Pagaent Contestants and the San Pedro community joined in greeting the young ladies to the Isla Bonita for a night of entertainment, dinner, fashion and dance.

The evening began with an address by reigning Costa Maya Queen 2010, Maritza Rivas.
One by one the Pageant Contestants were escorted to the stage and introduced to the applauding crowd.

San Pedro Lion's Club President, Melanie Paz, extended a warm greeting to the Contestants.
The crowd was then treated to a fashion show where several clothing stores and boutiques on the Island showcased their designs. beautifully modeled by the Contestants.


After dance performances by the San Pedro Dance Company the crowd enjoyed a delicious dinner of roasted chicken with all the trimmings.

After dinner Rompe Raja provided jammin' music where Contestants got to dance with the crown and mingle.






Before the night ended the ladies were given a gift from the San Pedro Lion's Club, a very appropriate beach towel with the map of Belize on it!
