NEMO Public Advisory TD 15

Tropical Depression 15 forms over the South Central Caribbean Sea. Watches and warnings issued for portions of Central America. The center of Tropical Depression 15 is located near latitude 13.9 North, Longitude 76.2 West. The depression is moving toward the West near 15 MPH and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 MPH with higher gusts with strengthening to occur. The Depression could become a Tropical Storm later tonight or Friday.

The public is being advised to be aware of the increased likelihood of further deteriorating weather conditions as Tropical Depression 15 nears our area over the weekend

NEMO advises people traveling to the Cayes and those along the coast to pay particular attention to sea conditions. The public is further advised to listen to their local radio and television stations for further advisories from the NEMO and the National Met Service.

Meteorologists advise close monitoring of Tropical System

All Dia de San Pedro Functions postponed...

Due to the inclement weather, all Dia de San Pedro weekend activities have been postponed until further notice.

Voluntary Evacuations are expected to begin Saturday afternoon.

-Press Release - NEMO - June 25th, 2010 - The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) warns the public of an area of disturbed weather, Invest 93, off the Honduras/Nicaragua border moving on a West North Westerly track. This system has the potential for development as it enters more favorable conditions existing to the East of Belize.

Presently the National Met Service predicts a 70% chance of the system developing into a Tropical Depression offshore Belize as it moves toward the Yucatan Peninsula during Saturday and Sunday.

The public is being advised to be aware of the increased likelihood of further deteriorating weather conditions as this system nears our starting later today and over the weekend.

The NEMO advises the public to be prepared for increased rainfall, potential flooding and unfavorable sea conditions. All those persons along the coast and people traveling to the cayes need to pay particular attention to sea conditions.

The public is further advised to listen to their local radio and television stations for further advisories from the NEMO and the National Met Service. - End-

Hard Rain floods Central Park area

The downpour has been almost non-stop all morning, and around 12:30pm, these pictures were taken from Heritage Bank on Barrier Reef Drive. Water was seen rising up the steps, and golf carts and vehicles splashed water every which way as they tried to navigate the flooded streets.

The forecast calls for "Gradual improvement in weather conditions on the way." Thursday's forecast:"A few showers or thunderstorms." and Friday "Isolated showers/thunderstorms" Winds are expected to go from 20knots to 15knots for the next two days.
