Urban Agriculture Program in South Side Belize City


- Press Release - Belmopan - December 7, 2010 - The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in conjunction with RESTORE Belize Programme is pleased to invite members of the public to attend the launching of the “Urban Agriculture Project in South Side - Belize City” to be held on Thursday December 9th, 2010 commencing at 10:00 a.m. at the Wilton Cumberbatch Field, Cor. Faber's Road and Caesar Ridge Rd., Belize City.

This collaborative effort between the Belize District Agriculture Department and RESTORE BELIZE PROGRAM is aimed at establishing backyard/home and school gardens to grow short term vegetables/condiments/herbs that will help citizens supplement their diet. This initiative is in line with the Ministry’s mandate of promoting food security; income generation; and poverty reduction.

FAO Representative for Belize and Jamaica visits Belize

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative for Belize and Jamaica Dr. Jerome Thomas is on a five-day familiarization tour of Belize.

Dr. Jerome Thomas is no stranger to the agriculture industry. His passion and vocation for agriculture at home and abroad have not only increased his knowledge theoretically as a doctor in the field, but have afforded him a wealth of experience that has been recognized domestically, regionally and internationally.

Today Dr. Thomas took up a new position as FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) Representative for the countries of Jamaica, Bahamas and Belize. His office is based in Jamaica and his appointment is for three years.
