The Vision of the San Pedro Town Council

To achieve autonomy and provide improvement in the quality of life of all the residents of San Pedro Town by promoting sustainable growth and development and protecting our Tourism Industry.
Mission:

The San Pedro Town Council will work under the principles of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness and honesty in order to obtain the necessary infrastructure, establish systems, to promote the growth of the Tourism Industry in Belize and the San Pedro Community. All services provided, will aim to improve the quality of life of the residents of San Pedro Town, without prejudice to Gender, Ethnicity, Religious, or Political Party affiliation.

Designed and developed the Mayor and her team, the vision & mission were officially unveiled and mounted on the wall of the San Pedro Town Council office on Thursday, March 20, 2010. It was indeed a historic moment, as it acknowledges the fact that San Pedro is a municipality that continues to grow and evolve, and it is their promise to the island to work for the residents’ betterment.

Also unveiled was the official chain of command at the SPTC, with the Mayor as the leader. The Town Council also adopted a 16-point Code of Ethics, one which is adopted in all Town and City Councils in Belize, and is based on a Fair, Ethical, Transparent and Accountable local government.

Congratulations to the Mayor and her team for taking on the initiative and first step in what is expected to be a new era of governance.

Avanti Destinations tours Belize

A group of seven representatives from Avanti International enjoyed a quick tour of Belize this past weekend to get a grasp of what the country has to offer. The group visited the Cayo District, Belize City, Placencia and San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. In speaking with Harry Dalgaard, President of Avanti Destinations, The San Pedro Sun found out that of the group, four were first time visitors. The travelers are agents for Avanti, and as such, sell Belize as a destination worldwide.

Avanti has seen resurgence in travel this past year, and Dalgaard believes that Belize needs to continue pushing forward and advertise itself as world class destination. In terms of infrastructure, Belize offers competitive resorts, locale, and experiences. “The number one asset is the friendly people,” stated Dalgaard; “That and a variety of products offered for everyone who comes to visit.”
Avanti Destinations specializes in building custom travel itineraries for independent travelers. They sell travel to Europe and Latin America (including Central America) and they work along with a Destination Management Company (DMC) in each destination. 38 is great!

38 is certainly great, and Helda Santos of Roadkill Bar held a rocking karaoke party on Wednesday night to celebrate. The San Pedro Sun was there and managed to get some pictures of the happy birthday girl and all friends who swung by to celebrate, have cake and sing a song or three!!

Hard Rain floods Central Park area

The downpour has been almost non-stop all morning, and around 12:30pm, these pictures were taken from Heritage Bank on Barrier Reef Drive. Water was seen rising up the steps, and golf carts and vehicles splashed water every which way as they tried to navigate the flooded streets.

The forecast calls for "Gradual improvement in weather conditions on the way." Thursday's forecast:"A few showers or thunderstorms." and Friday "Isolated showers/thunderstorms" Winds are expected to go from 20knots to 15knots for the next two days.

Jamila wins Lime's Alcohol Cook-off!!

Lime’s cook-off for May was alcohol-themed, and there were many dishes to enjoy. With participation from many businesses, including Fido’s, Nautica, Fusion, Lime, plus individuals like Marilyn Marx, Forrest Jones, Laura Sutton, Kathy Niemiec, Wade Rosen, Tanya Mejia and more, there was a lot to choose from. For only $10, one can fill up on a variety of items.

At the end of the night, Jamilla Janmohammed’s Chicken in Coffee and Kahlua proved to be the contender and won first place. Second place was Laura Sutton’s Stuffed Pork in Vodka and Tomato sauce, while Matt King rounded the top three with his Beef Bourguignon. $450 was raised, and the recipients of the money were San Pedro Seadogs.

Next month’s cook-off will be a Mediterranean theme, and will take place on June 12th. Mark your calendars!!
