Caye Caulker Marches Against Crime

In response to the recent murder of Caye Caulker resident Lorleen Young, residents organized a march against crime. People from Ambergris Caye as well as the mainland joined in the protest, which was spearheaded by the Caye Caulker Neighborhood Watch Program. Their message was clear: Stop the violence. Their hope is that their message will be heard, and that it is time for change so that Caye Caulker can once more be considered safe and crime free.

Police investigates assault

San Pedro Police is still gathering information regarding an assault that occurred late yesterday evening. Magdalena Chi told police that sometime around 5:00 PM her husband stormed inside her store “Cool Island Clothing,” apparently under the influence of alcohol and started a fight.

Magdalena told police that her husband tried to hit her and at that time ran to a nearby store where she got help. Her husband, 37 year old Geraldo Ack kicked the glass door of the store and sustained injuries. Ack managed to escape after a woman assisted Chi from being hit. The San Pedro Sun will have more information in the next issue of the newspaper.
