Queen of the Bay Contestants visit San Pedro

The delegates vying for the 65th Queen of the Bay pageant were on the island for a day full of activities and fun as part of their countrywide tour of the country.

The contestants were handed tokens of appreciation by Councilor Pablo Ico and Juan Alamilla Sr. at the deck of the Sunbreeze Hotel.
They also got to have lunch at BC's Beach Bar - one of the landmark establishments of La Isla Bonita.
The pageant will be held at Birds' Isle on Saturday, September 4th, at 7pm in Belize City. Current Queen of the Bay 2009-2010, Stann Creek's 19-year-old Rena Beverly Usher will be crowning one of the ten hopefuls vying for the title this year. The pageant is a prestigious ceremony that focuses on the young ladies' knowledge of Belize, and tests their talents (also based on the theme "Belize") as well as the formal curtsy that speaks of old world formality and prestige.

2010 September Celebrations Kick Off!!!

Sunday August 29th 2010 marked the official Opening of 2010 September Celebrations. Under the theme “United and Proud – Moving Forward – I am Belize!” The opening ceremonies took place at the St. George’s Caye Cemetery. The day included presentations by: Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture; Dr. Jaime Awe, Ms. Diane Haylock, Mr. John Searle, Jr. among others. Food and entertainment were provided. Karaoke 2010 continues!!!!

Karaoke 2010 continues at the Jaguar’s Night Club. On Thursday August 26th Noe Gastum, Mario Leal, Roberta Novelo, Ricardo Batun, Lizette Gutierrez and Diana Rodriguez took to the microphone to battle it out at the Jaguars Temple Club. The judges for the night were Carlos Perez, Geovanni Marin and Alejandro Mejia. At the end of the night Diana Rodriguez came out victorious as the Judges pick and Lizette Gutierrez advanced by the audience. The finals are scheduled to be held on the 16th of September. “Battle of the Champions” is the next event set to commence shortly after Karaoke 2010 concludes. Details of this competition will be posted as more information become available.

Cayo family awaits the return of their father

-Press Release - Elias Avella - August 27, 2010 - Maria Ochoa, 36 years, anxiously awaits the return of her husband, Edgar David Gonzalez. The forty seven year old watchman, had departed from home at about 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 8th. According to Ochoa, her husband was intending to report to work at BWEL Gas Company in Belmopan that very evening. Ochoa also reports that he was last seen in a black and white checkered shirt, a long black pants and brown leather shoes.
“If anybody knows him and sees him to call the police station”, says Ms. Maria Ochoa, who has five children waiting patiently at home.

SP Water Jets Express has minor incident in Caye Caulker

Several passengers on board SP Water Jets Express were a bit shaken when the boat they were on ran aground in Caye Caulker Village. Apparently the boat was docking at its usual spot in Caye Caulker (west) when the incident occurred. A phone call placed to owner of the company confirmed the minor incident but no details have been released. The Port Authority and Police are heading to the scene to conduct their investigation.

National Symposium on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children!!

Under the theme “Preserving Innocence & Dignity” and the patronage of First Lady Mrs. Kim Simplis and Special Envoy for Women and Children, the first National Symposium on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) is being held at the Radison’s and will run through the days Wednesday August 25th and today Thursday August 26th. The objective of this symposium is the bring awareness of this dire issue that pervades our society and in many cases, leaves profound scars that will last a lifetime, on our youths.
The symposium hopes to address this very pressing issue and devise ways in which, as a collective, we can create policies and find ways to alleviate this problem.

Lions Board Of Directors 2010-2011 Installed.

On Saturday night, August 21st, 2010, the San Pedro Lions Club held their installation ceremonies for the upcoming Board of Directors for the fiscal year of 2010-2011. Friends and Lion members, including a few from the Louisiana Chapter, joined at the Lions’ Den to celebrate the special occasion. The new board for the Lion Year 2010-2011 is as follows: President: Melanie Paz, Vice President: Marina Kay, Treasurer: Abel Guerrero, Board Secretary: Jorge Aldana, Membership Chair: Enes Anderson, Tail Twister: Rigoberto Kumul and Lion Tamer: Jan Brown. The club also elected four directors that will serve as advisors to the board. They are Francisco Verde, Tamara Sniffin, Francisco Palma and Zone Chair of the Belize Lions Zone 59 Chairman: Baldemar Graniel.

Louisiana Lions Donate to the San Pedro Poly Clinic!!!!

Mack, Keith, Kevin, Glen and Casey are five members of the Louisiana chapter of the International Lions Club. Mack and Keith have traveled several times to the island, donating many items to the Poly Clinic II with every trip. This trip was no exception, and their friends, who were first time visitors, got to witness the handing over of some much needed medical supplies and blankets and towels to the Clinic!

Hope for Kim - 10 mile walk

Bright and early on Sunday morning, friends gathered at the Central Park to start the 10 mile walk in honor of Kim Reyes. She is currently being treated for Kidney cancer and the walk was held to raise funds for her treatment.

Red Top Crew clean up...


Once again the red top crew, led by Elito Arceo, headed up to North Ambergris Caye to pick up trash along the beach side. The guys headed back down with bags and bags of trash, and they all collectively say to CLEAN IT UP!!

The route will take participants from Central Park (at 5am) to Boca del Rio Park, and then down middle street all the way to the Mile 4 Marker down south by the Buettner's residence. They will then turn back and head to the finish line at Central Park. See you there!! Show up even just to support and cheer on the participants. Donations are welcome!!
