San Pedro Police have confirmed the detention of one person as part of their investigation into the
robbery that occurred last night at Wings Store. While no official release has been made by the Police Department, The San Pedro Sun was able to confirm the detention of male of a Belize City address.
Sometime around 8:30 last night, Pakarshi Wadhwa, the manager of Wings Store, located on Coconut Drive in San Pedro, was heading to his apartment located in the second floor of the same building when he was attacked. Wadhwa had just closed the store, located on the lower flat of the building when he was ambushed inside his apartment building and was beaten in the head before robbed of two cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of money both in cash and checks.
It is uncertain how the man gained access to the upper flat of the building but according to attendants in nearby establishments, they were alerted by screaming coming out from the upper flat of the building. When they came out to see, they realized that a robbery was taking place, and that someone was being hurt. Wadhwa was rushed to a private clinic and the police was quickly alerted. Police responded promptly and managed to mobilize patrols and conducted searches in the general area.
The San Pedro Sun understands that at least two people were involved in the robbery but police would only say that one person has been detained. How did police come up with the arrest in such a short time?
The Sun confirmed that after the surveillance cameras were reviewed, images captured the incident as it unfolded. Hence with the help of surveillance cameras images, police were able to apprehend an individual that fits the images caught on the surveillance cameras.
Wadhwa was airlifted last night for further medical treatment in Belize City shortly after midnight but has since been released and is recuperating at home.
This is the second robbery in less than 2 days. On Wednesday, Marina’s Store Extension Shop in the DFC area was robbed in brought daylight.
