GEM - for a Greener Belize

Bravo Motors' staff was on the island this past week to promote their new stock of GEM (Global Electric Motorcars) vehicles. The eco-friendly vehicles are low-maintenance, with an Aluminium chassis, while remaining functional and stylish.

Passersby applauded the efforts of Bravo Motors with the GEM vehicles.

The San Pedro Sun staff was invited to take a spin with the vehicle around the island. We must say, it was a super quiet and smooth ride. The seat belts were also a great touch for safety.

Saturday Night will be a night of high fashion and beauty, as the delegates from The Next Miss Belize take to the runway to showcase high class fashion from RH Designs and more in a stellar community event. This is just another activity leading up to the exciting "new-format" pageant to select Belize's newest Beauty Ambassador.

South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch Cleanup

PRESS RELEASE – For immediate release


The South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch is gearing up for the island’s busy season with a neighborhood clean up! All south end residents and their families are encouraged to participate in sweeping our neighborhood clean of trash and debris on roads, the beach and empty lots.

The clean up will take place on Sunday November 14. We will meet at the water tower at 7:30am to divide into groups to tackle different sections. Please bring bug spray, work gloves, and whatever tools you may need such as rakes, machetes and shovels. The SACNW will provide cold water and garbage bags. Clean-ups generally only take a couple hours and the more people who help out the faster it will be.

The SACNW invites all neighborhoods to get involved in organized clean ups and showing our visitors just how Bonita our island can be!

UB host First Multicultural Fair

Press Release - November 10th, 2010 - University of Belize - Hundreds of students at the University of Belize (UB) Central Campus, Belmopan City today participated in the First Multicultural Fair 2010 at the University’s Central Campus, Belmopan City.
The fair, organized by students of the History & Anthropology Department of the University who are enrolled in classes of Multiculturalism in Belize and Introduction to Belizean History included a variety of multicultural presentations and displays celebrating Belize’s diversity.

Lecturer in the History & Anthropology Department, Ms Ritamae Hyde explained that the aim of the fair was to increase awareness of Belize’s multiculralism.
“It was designed to highlight the various cultural contributions and patterns of cross-cultural sharing in the multicultural nation of Belize,” remarked Ms Hyde.
Highlights at the fair included; Music and Dances of Belize, Foods of Belize, Practices and Rituals of Belize, Languages of Belize, Folklores of Belize and Cultures of Belize.

Students were also dressed in various cultural dress traditions depicting the rich and vivid diversity of Belize.

Miss World Belize returns from Sanya, China

Jessel Lauriano is back from her participation at the Miss World Pageant held in Sanya, China. During her whirlwind visit, she made friends, enjoyed her participation immensely, and even got to catch up with Lord Michael Ashcroft.

Ashcroft met and congratulated Jessel at the Miss World Coronation Ball.

The contest was televised to 1 billion television viewers in 150 countries on the 30th October 2010. During the event, Jessel also got to know other beauty ambassadors from around the world.

Miss Canada Denise Garrido, Miss Brazil Kamilla Ghabrise and Miss Germany Susanna Kobylinkski.

Jessel and Ms. Julia Morley, Chairman of Miss World Ltd. and International President of Variety Children Charity.

Morley came up with the phrase and concept “Beauty with a Purpose” which was created 30 years ago and has raised over US$400 million for charity organizations around the world.

The Miss World Pageant is the largest annual pageant of its kind and celebrated its 60th anniversary this year.
